Exam Details for the FE Chemical Exam
- The FE Chemical exam is most students’ first step toward becoming a professionally licensed chemical engineer. It is a computer-based, closed book exam with 110 questions. The exam appointment time is 6 hours long and includes:
- Nondisclosure agreement (2 minutes)
- Tutorial (8 minutes)
- Exam (5 hours and 20 minutes)
- Optional scheduled break (25 minutes)
- The only resource you will have on exam day is a digital version of the NCEES FE Reference Handbook

Previously, Seina was the Chief Engineer at the Colorado Public Utilities Commission, where he led and managed the agency’s Engineering Section and provided expert testimony and recommendations to Commissioners appointed by the Governor of Colorado. He has testified and worked on regulatory issues related to implementing Colorado’s clean energy goals, including beneficial electrification, demand-side management, clean heat planning, electric and natural gas rate cases, transportation electrification, energy storage, and certificates of public convenience and necessity. He also has worked at the Colorado Department of Transportation and the US Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
Seina holds a Master of Science in Global Energy Management from the University of Colorado Denver and a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder. He is also a guitarist and enjoys music, reading, history, basketball, the beach, and playing with his dog. He lives in San Diego, CA.
