Exam Details for the PE Civil Transportation Exam
The PE Civil exam tests for a minimum level of competency in civil engineering and is designed for engineers who have gained a minimum of four years of work experience in their engineering discipline. The PE Civil exam is a closed-book CBT exam in which you will work the breadth section and one of the five depth modules. The breadth section contains questions from the five areas of civil engineering, while the depth section focuses on a single area of practice. For more exam information click below.
PE Civil Transportation Exam FAQs
Your PE Civil Transportation exam appointment is 9 hours long and includes:
- Nondisclosure agreement (2 minutes)
- Tutorial (8 minutes)
- Exam (8 hours)
- Optional scheduled break (50 minutes)
The exam is divided into two sessions, with approximately 40 questions each session, totalling 80 questions. Examinees can, if they choose, divide up question-solving time how they wish; for example, they could choose to spend 2 hours on the morning session and 6 hours on the afternoon session. However, once a full session is submitted, it cannot be revisited. Additionally, the examinee has 8 hours total for answering questions, meaning if less time is spent on break, that time is not added to problem-solving time.
