    Author Information

    Norman R. Voigt, PE, PLS, is registered as both a civil engineer and land surveyor in Pennsylvania. He has been responsible for design, construction, maintenance, and inspection on a variety of highway and transit projects. Since 1974, he has taught or acted as curriculum coordinator for The Pennsylvania State University's Civil PE review course. He has been an adjunct lecturer at the University of Pittsburgh, and he continues to participate on the senior design project review panel. Mr. Voigt is the author of several Civil PE exam review books, and he has served as a long-time advisor in PPI's Civil PE Passing Zone. He holds bachelor of science and master of science degrees in civil engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.

    Great Prep Book for CE Civil Transportation Depth exam Review by Amazon Customer
    This book provides in-depth coverage of the exam subject matter for the Transportation section of the PE Civil Exam that you take in the afternoon session. It meets the NCEES' Transportation Depth Exam Specifications and covers the 11 design standards used in the exam. It essentially combines the 11 titles into one comprehensive reference manual.

    The book is well written and well structured. It provides a thorough review of the exam topics and equations, which appear to be up to date with the latest exam specifications. In addition, it contains example problems that show you how to apply the concepts and equations to solve the typical problems found in the exam. It also contains practice problems at the end of each chapter that you can practice and check with the provided solutions.

    Another great feature of this book is the index, which is thorough and useful in that it allows you to find the relevant concepts and equations quickly and easily.

    The book is designed to be used in conjunction with the PE Civil Reference Manual, which provides in-depth coverage for the breadth section of the PE Civil exam that you take in the morning session. If you are preparing the Transportation Depth exam, this is the book you need.     Foremost, this text is designed for use with the Civil Engineering Reference Manual. While The Civil Engineering Reference Manual is critical for success on the morning PE exam, this is designed for the more specific afternoon exam. So, do grab that general text in an effort to get the most out of this series. Buying both will boost both your overall memory and your confidence. (And, both are crucial to your success).

    This text itself is broken into six broad sections. Each sections has then been broken into specific subsections. This allows one to truly focus on areas of potential deficiency (or areas that require a little more polish). In essence, the structure of the book values the readers time and guides one to the most applicable areas.

    This updated versions contains new questions, figures and tables not available in earlier editions. Therefore, while it may be tempting to grab an older, cheaper edition, this is one is the best choice for the most up-to-date information.

    This may well be the best, most authoritative, and comprehensive of the study manuals for the Civil PE Exam. It cover just about everything not only for the student, but also for the seasoned pro who may wish to brush up, and learn of some of the newer ideas in the3 field. It is beautifully put together with charts, Q's and A's, and mathematical models, including some on a difficult scale. The Table of Contests is thus: Preface, Design Standards and References, Introduction. Topic 1: Transportation Planning, including Traffic Flow, Origin- Destination Studies, Traffic Volume Studies, Site Analysis, Practice Problems, among other related subjects; Topic 2: Traffic and Capacity Analysis, including Travel Time and Delay Studies, Capacity Analysis, Traffic Signals, Parking Facilities, Practice Problems; Topic 3: Non-Motorized Facilities, Pedestrian and Bicycle, Mass Transit Studies: Topic 4: Geometric Design, mainly about alignments and curves, Sight Distance, and covers Intersections, Railroad Engineering, Bikeways, Mass Transit, and Traffic Safety including Traffic Safety, Crash Analysis, Roadside Clearance Analysis, Economics, Work Zone Safety, Traffic Control Zones.
