License Renewal and Continuing Professional Competency Requirements


April ExamsOctober Exams
FE Exam 60 days prior to exam 60 days prior to exam
PE Exam 120 days prior to exam 120 days prior to exam
The above deadlines are for first-time test-takers. If you have already taken the exam and receive notice that you have not passed, your application deadline is extended. Please check with the Board for details.

The following PE exams are given in October only: Ag, ConSys, Fire, Ind, Manf, Met, Min/Min, Nuc, and Pet. The Naval/Marine PE exam is given in April only.

FE Exam Information

Min. educ. required: Senior year in an Eng curriculum
Required experience: EAC Eng degree; "4-yr curriculum in engineering or its equivalent"; Eng Tech degree not accepted
Waiver granted for FE: Possible with 12 yrs exp


PE Exam Information
NCEES exams offered: All except STR II
Residency requirement: No
Required experience: EAC Eng degree + 4 yrs exp and FE examination passage; non-EAC Eng degree + 8 yrs exp; 12 yrs exp; other combinations

License Renewal Information

License renewal: PE and PS: Every 2 years
PDH required for renewal: PE--No; PS--24 PDH
