Customer Reviews (View All - 11)

Excellent single resource Review by Lynn
    Overall
I took my PE test 3 days ago, and this was by far the most used reference. In fact, I only brought a handful of other resources with me (I took the Mechanical: Mechanisms test). With a careful, full review of this book, plus review problems from various sources, you can be well prepared for the test.

I will say that the recommended sources up front, and some of the suggested "test day kit" materials are a bit over the top, at least for the mechanical, mechanisms, test. For example, you don't need multiple books full of steam tables. One good one will do, although I'd suggest something a bit more complete than the book provides (these tables are good, but can require interpolation if you need the superheated table). You also don't need scissors or tape as is recommended in the book. Also, any watch or clock not ON your wrist must be put on the floor, so get a vibrating alarm watch with timer or stopwatch, and forget extra timing clocks- you'll spend too much time mucking with clocks otherwise. My extra timer laid on the floor the whole time and I didn't use it, just my watch on a 1 hr timer I kept resetting when it went off.

There were a few errata posted for my copy of the book (3th ed., 2nd printing), but other than what is posted online, I may have found one or two other minor issues that were clearly errant.

All in all, I would recommend this as the first step in a study program. (Posted on 10/31/2016)

Excellent Review Manual Review by Frank
    Overall
This book contains comprehensive materials for preparation for the PE exam, including all the formulas and examples needed. I highly recommend this for anyone preparing to take the PE exam. (Posted on 12/13/2013)

Best Book on Market for Preparing Mechanical PE Exam Review by Rick
    Overall
I bought this book for Mechanical PE exam preparation. My friend has a 12th edition. Comparing with 12th edition, this edition has more materials and equations. It's very comprehensive. But proofreading and calculation checking of this edition/print needs some improvement. Since more materials are added, the equation numbers have changed. Some places still reference the old equation numbers as in the 12th edition. This is easy to catch, doesn't affect studying the book that much. I hope the publisher will correct this in the next print. It will make this book so much better. (Posted on 12/13/2013)
